The Curse Of K.K. Hammond - Death Roll Blues The Curse Of K.K. Hammond
K.K. Hammond is a slide guitar-playing songstress living deep in the backwoods of the UK. Drawing influence from the Delta Blues musicians of the 1930s and the roots music of Appalachia, she blends these traditions with a swampy ambiance and a touch of Southern gothic horror. While her sound is deeply rooted in tradition, K.K. puts her own distinctive twist on it—creating an untapped, genre-blurring style that resonates with both contemporary music lovers and die-hard blues fans.
Her music has garnered critical acclaim around the globe and has been featured on a wide array of international blues radio shows. Notable appearances include Cerys Matthews' BBC Radio 2 Blues Show and the award-winning Gary Grainger Blues Show. One standout moment came when a video of K.K. covering Metallica's Nothing Else Matters—performed on slide guitar alongside her friend Kaspar "Berry" Rapkin on banjo—was shared by Metallica on their official TikTok account, where they called the performance “Incredible!”
K.K.’s breakout success came with the release of her debut album, Death Roll Blues. The vinyl and CD editions sold out during the pre-order phase, even before the album’s official release. Once launched, it soared to the #1 spot on the UK iTunes Blues chart, followed shortly by another #1 on the US iTunes Blues chart. The album also made waves across genres, climbing to #12 in the overall iTunes chart and #18 in the UK mainstream iTunes chart. It became the #3 best-selling iTunes Blues album pre-sale of all time, and marked K.K.'s first appearance on the Billboard Blues Chart, where it reached #7.
Beyond her music, K.K. has also found success as a self-produced video director. Her haunting music video for Heart Shaped Box won multiple awards across the festival circuit, including accolades from the Video Nasties Genre Film Festival, David Film Festival (Turkey), Euro Music Video Song Awards, Anatolia Film Festival, and Golden Wheat Awards. She also earned an Honorable Mention at the London Director Awards, further showcasing her creative versatility.
Originally from the UK, K.K. developed a passion for guitar, Americana, and roots blues from an early age. Her fascination with the American South led her to explore its back roads before eventually settling in a remote, wooded part of the English countryside. Today, she runs a small farm and lives as a self-proclaimed hermit. Surrounded by wilderness, she draws inspiration for her songwriting from the rugged beauty and eerie solitude of her natural surroundings.
